The danish MTV nominated trio has worked with transformation on their latest release ”Bound”, which features several prominent guests from the indie world. Furthermore they are giving fans free hands to remix all tracks and redesign the artwork as they like. Through hard work, focus and an ear for hit melodies, Turboweekend has climbed the ladder from underground darlings to audience favourites in their native Denmark, recently being nominated for Best Danish Act in the MTV Europe Awards 2010. With their new ep ”Bound”, out on 12” vinyl and free download, they are throwing the doors wide open. All parts to the music – including contributions from Ty Bulmer of New Young Pony Club, Casper Clausen of Efterklang, and Coco Malaika of Quadron – will be made available for download from the bands website, and the best remixes will be made official along with the best redesigns of the artwork and the best fan videos. The open attitude has been a part of the project from the beginning, when Turboweekend decided to make the ep. ”Our friendship goes back many years before Turboweekend started, and when you’ve played together for so many years your idea about your own potential can tend to stifle somewhat. After touring with Ghost Of A Chance for a year and a half we reached a point where we wanted to shake the bag and challenge our self conception, and we had three strategies” says drummer Martin Petersen, and lead singer Silas Bjerregaard explains: “First we chose the ep-format because we felt it was more spontaneous, and we were hoping that it might trick us into feeling more free, secondly we wanted to work with guest vocals because a new voice can be so incredibly inspiring and do so much to change the feeling of a song, and thirdly we wanted wanted to record a cover song to see how other people’s songwriting could affect us.” There in lies also the explanation to the ep’s title ”Bound”, which can mean both ”tied down” and ”leap”. The digital version of the ep contains 5 tracks and can be downloaded for free at www.turboweekend.com from Nov. 10th, where you can also order the 12” vinyl version which contains a bonus cover version of the Talking Heads song Heaven. ... >> |
