Turboweekend shakes the bag on new EP
Through hard work, focus and an ear for hit melodies, Turboweekend has climbed the ladder from underground darlings to audience favourites in their native Denmark, recently being nominated for Best Danish Act in the MTV Europe Awards 2010. With their new ep ”Bound”, out on 12” vinyl and free download, they are throwing the doors wide open.

All parts to the music – including contributions from Ty Bulmer of New Young Pony Club, Casper Clausen of Efterklang, and Coco Malaika of Quadron – will be made available for download from the bands website, and the best remixes will be made official along with the best redesigns of the artwork and the best fan videos.

The open attitude has been a part of the project from the beginning, when Turboweekend decided to make the ep.

”Our friendship goes back many years before Turboweekend started, and when you’ve played together for so many years your idea about your own potential can tend to stifle somewhat. After touring with Ghost Of A Chance for a year and a half we reached a point where we wanted to shake the bag and challenge our self conception, and we had three strategies” says drummer Martin Petersen, and lead singer Silas Bjerregaard explains:

“First we chose the ep-format because we felt it was more spontaneous, and we were hoping that it might trick us into feeling more free, secondly we wanted to work with guest vocals because a new voice can be so incredibly inspiring and do so much to change the feeling of a song, and thirdly we wanted wanted to record a cover song to see how other people’s songwriting could affect us.”

There in lies also the explanation to the ep’s title ”Bound”, which can mean both ”tied down” and ”leap”.

The digital version of the ep contains 5 tracks and can be downloaded for free at www.turboweekend.com from Nov. 10th, where you can also order the 12” vinyl version which contains a bonus cover version of the Talking Heads song Heaven.

”Bound” follows up on the bands sophomore album Ghost Of A Chance from 2009, which elevated the band into a new league and has turned out to be one of the most enduring danish releases in a long time with sales and radio airplay more than a year after it’s initial release. The bands incessant and highly praised touring activity has surely done a lot to boost the albums popularity. Their spring tour was sold out, and this summer they appeared on numerous festivals including a headline at SPOT festival, and stuffed tents at both Roskilde Festival and Danmarks Smukkeste Festival.

The album has also opened doors outside of Denmark, where prominent acts like dutch mega DJ Tiësto and UK dubstep darling Joker have both remixed the hit Trouble Is. Recently the group has signed with UK management Supervision, also responsible for major acts like Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and Crystal Castles.

”It has been a very exiting process, and we are bursting with ideas for our 3rd full length album, which he have already started working on and expect to have ready in early 2011.” says bass player Morten Koie.

2010

Turboweekend formed in Copenhagen in 2006, as a lovechild between the underground rock scene and the increasingly popular electronic club scene of the northern capital.

They signed with CPH Rec in 2007 and released their much praised debut album Night Shift in Denmark that same October.

Emitting a powerful current of disco-rock, low-end indie pop, and electrical soul, the band has played for enthusiastic crowds at dripping rock venues, festivals, and raving clubparties in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the US, sharing the bill with acts such as Midnight Juggernauts, Boys Noize and Stricken City.

The band released their second album march 2009, about which danish grand-old-dj Kjeld Tolstrup has said ”it makes The Killers taste like a sloppy burger with too much cheese and too little meat”. Where the debut album of 2007 took the underground craze into the public, with three singles on national radio, and nominations as Best Act of The Year in the two biggest award shows in Denmark (P3 Gold and Zulu Awards), the new album presents a mature songwriting and production, with roots and branches far beyond any narrow sub culture. References might include Genesis (the middle stuff), Depech Mode, and The Rapture. But hear for yourself.

The album, entitled Ghost Of A Chance, was released in Denmark, and on iTunes world wide, through Mermaid Rec (Sony/BMG), March 2009.
